Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only half a year after starting derogatory chants directed at the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has signed a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds concluded through agreement this past summer.

Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead abusive chants regarding Chris Wilder amid the club’s success festivities in April. Currently, the one-cap England international is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift his beloved club out of the bottom places.

Previous Conflict Involving the Striker and the Manager

The pair had history before Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

Everything seems to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.

The song about Wilder went viral in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that is an integral part of football across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 games for Leeds last season however the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
