Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part season written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of the unit over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston called being part of the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
The BBC haven't revealed when the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of season six drew the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
