NFL 2025 season: Week six

Real-time updates features text commentary of the weekend matchups on various channels, starting with the Broncos-Jets clash at Tottenham (from 14:00 BST). Additionally, radio commentary can be heard through select stations for a separate game (beginning at 9 PM BST).

We're in the sixth week in the NFL season , after last week's talk about two top teams as a potential Super Bowl match-up, they both lost their perfect starts.

Notable in those games was the number of penalties each committed. The Eagles committed them in key moments so they kind of defeated themselves after leading by two touchdowns going into the fourth period versus the Denver Broncos, who play overseas this weekend.

But it proved positive to see that Denver's QB Bo Nix managed to have the shortfall before lead three scoring drives in three attempts in the fourth quarter, securing the game by four points.

The Broncos boast the top defender with CB Pat Surtain II. They rank first in red zone defence, whereas the Eagles are number one in red zone offence, and the Broncos won that contest.

They executed the Eagles' number regarding simulated pressure. They did not necessarily sending more than four pass rushers but they might position two LBs in the 'A' gap then drop them out and dispatch a nickel from the outside.

At the start in the campaign, we said during a show how Denver might emerge as this season's surprise contenders. They finished last season well then did a good job of building upon that.

Could Denver be this season's dark horses?

New TE Evan Engram has stepped up significantly while recent running back their rusher is a guy the team trusts. He's currently fifth in the NFL for rushing yards (402) and tied-fourth in rushing scores (four).

I love that head coach Sean Payton displays "RUN IT!" at the top on his call sheet.

This demonstrates how the Broncos are a squad aiming to run first, because one can do a lot based on that approach. It reduces opposing rushes and maintains in favourable situations.

This has helped quarterback Bo Nix, who came into the league as a first-round selection in the prior draft, throwing 29 touchdown passes – just behind Justin Herbert for the rookie record (31 back in 2020).

Other elite QBs possess the arm strength to throw anywhere, but they don't move the mobility that Nix has. He has incredible passing ability, which is different, and he's so athletic.

His assets include his movement, the capacity to throw on the run, and finding different arm angles to deliver throws when he rolls outside protection, on rollouts. He is able to deliver precision throws over the middle or past defenders.

As a rookie QB, aged 25, he displays great poise in the pocket and isn't bothered by extra rushers. He tries to avoid being tackled whenever possible and is able pass under pressure. He possesses a high football IQ and remains very decisive.

When you constantly rush it eats up time and makes the opponent to stay on the field for longer, and when you've got an athletic quarterback the defence has to cover the field vertically side to side. It can be draining.

The quarterback has pushed back at Payton during games at times and I think Payton likes that fire, seeing him as a fierce rival. I think it's fun for him to have a rookie QB who's similar to moldable clay. The coach can really develop him the way he wants to build it. I believe it's a unique opportunity for him.

The head coach owns a championship and has passed Bill Parcells in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed everything. I think the achievements Denver are having on offence is largely down to his leadership, his play-calling, his game sense – and the combination with Nix aids shape him what he is.

You wouldn't want a more qualified person in your ear, to assist you through difficult moments and boost self-belief.

I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. Yet are they good enough to face an elite team at its best? Because that wasn't championship-level play from Philadelphia last Sunday.

Right now, it's unlikely Denver are elite. They're working better than most, which is a good place to hold the AFC West. All they need is is maintain this trajectory.

They excel at leaning into their strength, that is the ground game, and this is precisely what they must do versus the New York Jets at Tottenham. It will likely be a Dobbins-focused game, essentially.

New York have surrendered 140 rushing yards per game (among the worst), five rushing touchdowns so far (in the bottom ten), and they are the only team without a win a game.

Ever since the NFL started recording turnovers decades ago, the Jets are also the first team to go without any turnovers in five outings, which is surprising when you think that their new coach was previously defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.

The Chiefs' QB stated the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' after a recent loss by the Jaguars.

After the upcoming matchup, Denver face a smooth-ish schedule up to their break (in week twelve) - the Giants, the Cowboys, the Texans plus the Raiders before the Chiefs.

In the AFC West, Kansas City are 2-3 and the Broncos are even with the Los Angeles Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could challenge for the top of the West.

It depends on what version Kansas City shows up they meet since the Broncos {beat|def
